Background

The Local Government Act 2000 established Local Strategic Partnerships to strengthen the links between councils and local people in each local authority area. The borough's LSP is called The Kensington and Chelsea Partnership. Simultaneously, the government have also set up Community Empowerment Networks (CENs) to help voluntary, community and residents' groups to get involved as equal partners and influence decisions made by the LSPs. The Kensington & Chelsea Social Council services the Voluntary Organisations Forum (VOF), which brings together all the CENs (and individual community and voluntary organisations) in the borough. Voluntary sector representatives on the LSP are elected by the VOF.

Mission

REP KC is a Community Empowerment Network and promotes partnership working by bringing together agencies to ensure that through consultation and necessary changes, the needs of the borough's residents and workforce are incorporated in mainstream public services.

REP KC has a broad membership from amongst individuals as well as the voluntary and community, statutory and private sectors and, convenes regular membership meetings with guest speakers.

REP KC is currently funded by the Kensington & Chelsea Police and RBKC Community Safety Team and secured project funding from Notting Hill Housing. In the past, it has received funding from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and the Commission for Racial Equality.
